Theater Nordhausen/Loh Orchestra Sondershausen

The Theater Nordhausen/Loh-Orchester Sondershausen GmbH, today also known as TNLOS!, is the largest cultural institution in the north of the Free State of Thuringia. It was created by the merger of the stages of the city of Nordhausen with the Loh-Orchester Sondershausen at the end of 1991. With around 200 employees, it is also one of the largest employers in the region.

The building, the Stadttheater Nordhausen, is located at Käthe-Kollwitz-Straße 15 in the city of the same name. In the 2017/2018 season, the 100th anniversary of the theater was celebrated, which experienced its opening on September 29, 1917, with a festive program of opera and drama. The city fathers decided on December 14, 1912, to demolish the old, dilapidated Tivoli Theater, which had been privately owned until 1911, and to build a modern equipped new city theater almost on the same site. Construction began in 1913 according to the plans of architect Gustav Ricken, and the shell was already completed in 1914. World War I prevented rapid progress, but not the completion of the modern theater.
