Pannegoor

In the mid-19th century, Esquire Emile Cartier de Marchiennes, after whom the Cartierheide is named, came to live on the nearby Duyselshof estate and bought a large piece of heathland where he could hunt. There were not enough ducks in the small fens for his liking, so he had a large puddle dug - the Pannegoor where all those gulls now build their nests. On the dike, which was erected between the lake and the heath, birch trees were planted. In this way, the squire and his hunting friends were able to sneak up on the ducks unnoticed. The winding path, between and over the roots of the birches, still exists. This Pannegoor Passage is one of the most beautiful parts of the route.
