Looking for the chapels around the Poelberg and Meikensbossen

On this hike we look for chapels, stations of the cross and the cave of Lourdes with Ommegang in the new local recreation area around the Poelberg in Tielt.

This route starts at the De Meikensbossen domain car park in Dentergem, a young and new nature reserve that is in full development.

Soon we pass the Chapel of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. We pass a pond and leave the Meikensbossen.

Further on we come to the ruins of St. Anne's Chapel, a church that never became a church... A little further on is the beautifully decorated St. Anne's Fever Chapel. At the end of the street is the Troost Chapel of Our Lady in Need.

Now we have a good view of the Poelberg , formerly a wooded area but now a sheltered village where the wind has free play, which the Poelbergmühle takes full advantage of. We climb the Poelberg and reach the grotto of Lourdes with a tour.

In the old monastery with a former school there is now a reception center and a brasserie. Ideal to enjoy the view.

We descend the Poelberg via the Sneppewegel and pass some beautiful crossroads. The small Poelbergbosje was now built on a former soccer field.

We circle the Poelberg completely and get to the colorful Santa Apollònia chapel. A little further it goes up the Poelberg again, an ascent that many cyclists did wrong on Sunday due to the incline of up to 10%. We can rest on a bench in the shade of the Poelberger Mühle . The mill often operates on Sunday afternoons (2022).

We go down the Poelberg again and enter the Meikesbossen area. We hike along the trails and eventually return to the starting point.
