The Abbey of Postel has undeniably had a significant influence on its surroundings. In addition to the original lands it received around 1140, the monastic community acquired even more property in the following years. Often, these were poor lands waiting to be developed. Due to its size and activities, the monastery also created employment outside its walls, for example, during the numerous renovations. The abundant greenery in the wide vicinity of the abbey is, of course, not solely thanks to the abbey: the location and the quality of the soil were also important factors.
Today, one can only be glad that this green region has partly escaped the bulldozers. However, some pieces of forest have already been cleared at the back of the abbey to make way for modern homes.
At the parking lots near the Abbey of Postel, one can prepare for this relaxing bike tour. Around the abbey, a kind of mass tourism is forming, which hopefully does not spread to the surrounding nature reserves.
A forest where the smell of hamburgers prevails is not exactly what one hopes for. But fortunately, it hasn't come to that yet. If you choose the right time for your tour – for example, in autumn – it is less crowded here.

SAFETY
Very safe route: Few important roads need to be crossed. Often you can ride on a separate bike path.

Cyclists have paved roads available almost everywhere. This is not the case for other traffic. 55% traffic-free.

RECOMMENDED STARTING POINT
Abbey Postel (area Mol). The path described here is a shortcut to the official Miel Otten route (40 km), which also starts at the Abbey Postel.
