Valley path

This bike route winds through the valleys of numerous smaller and larger streams. It is, in a way, a geography lesson on a bicycle. Over the valleys, you have a view of the beautiful Pajottenland, and below, you find peace by gently bubbling streams. The origin of the name Pajottenland is not entirely clear. The name was probably used for the first time in 1845 by Franz-Joseph De Gronckel, who wrote a series of articles about his region for De Vaderlander, a newspaper from Ghent. According to Franz-Joseph, a Pajot was a patriot. At least that is the story that circulates here. The encyclopedic dictionary by Verschueren offers another explanation: a 'pagnote' is a mercenary.
