Inverted T Albert Canal - Kempisch Canal (13km)

North of the Albert Canal, the Dessel-Turnhout-Schoten Canal joins Schoten. This canal is one of the 7 'Kempische canals' (http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanaal_Dessel-Turnhout-Schoten), hence the naming of this loop.

At one of the most beautiful bridges in Schoten starts this loop that keeps itself as close as possible to all the canal water (so that all ships can be admired).

That first bridge is also a special one: it is the narrowest in the Kempisch canal: the large ships have barely a few cm to get through. You regularly hear it 'cracking' there (ship against the blocks of the bridge).

The Albert Canal is crossed in a safe way. On the south side between these two bridges there is a unique towpath: This runs on the quay between the ships to be unloaded and on the other side the unloaded ship loads (for the construction industry). Regularly see a spectacle (see the POi's)!

However, be careful on this concrete towpath: ASK PASSAGE to the crane man when a ship is unloaded.
Also put yourself aside when a large truck or large excavator passes by: The drivers are careful, and if you show respect, everyone is happy.

So: if you want a view of water, ships and boats, locks, bridges, and quay activities, then this loop is for you.
