WWu Heuvelland - Kassel - Poperinge

Bicycle route along paved, car-free paths from Kemmel to Kassel, Steenvoorde, and then back to Kemmel via Poperinge. This bicycle route is suitable for racing bikes or city bikes with enough gears or e-bikes.

You start gently uphill towards Kemmel and from there along Lokerstraat beside the Kemmelberg. Optionally, you can climb the Kemmelberg from the east side via Kattekerkhofstraat, Bergweg, and Kemmelbergweg. After that, you ride down the south side to get back to Lokerstraat.

After the descent, you climb again to Loker and further up to a height of just over 100 meters between the peaks of Rodeberg and Vidaigneberg. Here, you ride under the Cordoba cable car. You also pass the Entre-Deux-Monts vineyard before riding down to Westouter.

You cross into France over Kokereelberg and arrive in Berten and then Vleteren. You can see Kassel from afar. The Kasselberg, at 176 meters, is the highest hill in Westhoek. The ascent via Rue d'Aire is challenging.

From Kassel, it’s mostly downhill and the route becomes flatter. You then ride through Sint-Mariakappel, Terdegem, and Steenvoorde. Via D168, you return to Belgium. You pass very close to Poperinge before eventually arriving back at the starting point.

In total, you ride more than 80 km with over 550 meters of elevation gain.
