Region-GR Dijleland

The Streek-GR Dijleland is a loop of 131 km and takes you in 7 daily stages through the surprising valleys of the Dijle and its tributaries Voer, Laan, IJse and Zenne, and through the adjacent nature reserves. The start and end points of all stages are easily accessible by public transport.

You go to the historic center of Leuven. You follow the Dijle heading south through the Groot-Begijnhof. Along Arenberg Castle, you walk to the Doode Bemde and the Grootbroek, pearls of nature reserves. With the IJse and the Laan you meander through the Rodebos and Laanvallei nature reserve. You will pass Terlanen and Huldenberg on your way to the Sonian Forest and Tervuren, where history is never far away. De Voer takes you downstream into Bertem with its typical Romanesque church of the Meuse and the majestic Bertembos. Through many fragments of unique nature, it goes further north and you come, accompanied by the Senne, to Mechelen. You will get acquainted with the old city center of Mechelen. Through the bird-rich Mechels Broek and enjoying extensive scenery along the Dijle towpath, you head to Haacht. You walk along the footsteps of the Second World War: the anti-tank canal and the old Molen van Rotselaar. You climb along the hollow roads to the Kesselberg with a beautiful view of Leuven and its surroundings. The route briefly flirts with the Hagelandse Heuvelland, but soon you descend back down to the Dijle Valley. Along the Kessel-Lo provincial estate you reach the heart of the city of Leuven again.
