Before leaving: think about shoes suitable for rainy weather. Boots are not an unnecessary luxury. Go to the Place des Manants de Gives (V), next to the church of Gives. Pass the back of the church until you reach Rue Emile Vandervelde and follow it to the left. Ignore Rue des Prés Brion on the left and turn left at the first fork. You climb slowly, ignore the dead end rue de la Petite Ruelle on the right and enjoy the panorama of the Meuse valley in front of you. Turn with the road going up to the right and take a downhill, dead-end street next to a house on the left with a sharp turn. The street turns into a narrow path with a red window as signage, to the right of the wire fence. You climb between meadows to the forest and follow red diamonds until you reach a street between the gardens of a residential area. Cross it and walk on a narrow path between the gardens and the next street. Cross it and head back along a path between the gardens to a meadow with a barrier. Walk through the meadow to a similar barrier on the other side and follow the red diamond and a blue rectangle until you come to a paved road next to a house. Walk straight on the paved road that leads to the house (rue de la Sarte a Ben), until you can take the first country road on the left. Now you can follow the signage of the walks with a red half cross and a blue triangle. You walk for a long time on an adventurous path. It meanders and undulates along Ben's Creek and you can even cross the stream several times. If water flows into it, it is. Sometimes it's just dry. On the left is Mount Goesnes. After a while, you walk along a meadow. Continue to follow the path until you reach a wide forest road. After about 200 m, turn right and exit the forest on a rough road with lots of stones. Continue walking between fields and meadows, ignore a country road on the left and pass two houses via Rue de l'Epine on a paved road to a T-junction. Turn left and continue through the countryside towards the forest. Enter the forest and start a long descent through an impressive hollow road. Make sure you have suitable shoes, as this can be quite silly here. Continue down to a fork with a green metal seal. The red and blue walks turn right here. You follow the mesh fence diagonally to the left and descend steeply to the N90. Cross it and then take the street that leads you to the Meuse. On the other side of the stream, you can see the church of Bas-Oha 1 from above. If you look closely, on the other bank, half hidden behind trees, you can see the Red Castle 2 (15th-17th centuries). Follow the Meuse on the left, upstream. At the fork, you keep left and move away from the Meuse. Follow this road until you can turn right into a narrow street until you reach Ben's Church. On the right side of the corner hangs a panel, half hidden behind a bush. This indicates the level of the Meuse when it overflowed its bed on 27 January 1995. Follow the narrow street to Ben Square with the church and cemetery behind. There, take the church path on the left, cross a stream and turn right at the T-junction. The road turns left, becomes unpaved and ends at the Meuse. Follow the towpath on the left. You walk along the stream for a long time. Barges offer the necessary variety. At Beguines Island and Canon Island 3, turn left with the Meuse and continue on the N90. Cross, follow this busy road 200 m to the right and then turn left into Derrière Saive Street. Follow this narrow paved road with one-way traffic to the fork. Turn left, at the end of this road that you also passed earlier, and continue walking to the church of Gives.
