Böddenstedt

The old village of Böddenstedt in Altmark, a street village with a church, is located about two kilometers southwest of the town center of Salzwedel. To the north, the Salzwedeler Dumme river flows. The nearest neighboring village to the south is Kemnitz.

The first mention of Böddenstedt dates back to 1321 as villam Bodenstede, when the knights Gebhard and Heinrich von Alvensleben handed the village over to the town of Salzwedel. In 1354, it is referred to as villa Boddenstede. In the land book of the Mark Brandenburg from 1375, the village is listed as Bodenstede. The old town of Salzwedel held all rights and the mill, which later became Böddenstedter Mühle, a water mill. Other mentions include 1541 as Bodenstedt and 1687 as Böddenstedt near Saltzwedel.
