La Chapelle Botiotte

This chapel is located in the middle of the forest of the Charbonniers valley: its primary vocation is as a refuge where one can warm up and eat a meal from the sack. It was built in 1857 by a few locals. During work to widen the path, the removal of an enormous rock left sufficient space which seemed to the workers a place ready for a chapel. The small chapel was enlarged to its present size in 1873. The small chapel was enlarged in 1873 to its present dimensions. Among the artisans of this expansion was a grocer of the Charbonniers, well known to the lumberjacks for the small bottles he sold them, hence his nickname Botiotte, now attached to the chapel and placed under the name of Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours. This chapel can be a very pleasant place for a walk in the silence of the forest, where the remains of the mines exploited in the past centuries for the benefit of the Dukes of Lorraine still remain.
