The Stellingenpad will be opened in April 2022 on the Boerestreek in Appelscha. The almost 230 kilometer long path is an official rural walking route with the theme of the Stellingwerven. The history, landscape, language and culture of the Stellingwerven are central to the hiking guide, which, just like the Pieterpad, is published by NIVON in collaboration with the Free State de Stellingen Foundation. The Stellingenpad was named Walking Route of the Year in February 2023!!

Broadly speaking, the route goes from Appelscha through the Kale Duinen to Vledder, then over the Holtingerveld towards Steenwijk, past the Wieden over Vollenhove and Giethoorn to the Linde, then past Wolvega towards De Hoeve and Oldeberkoop, there it goes along the Tjonger either over Donkerbroek to Allardsoog, or over Oosterwolde to Haulerwijk, where the paths meet again to go towards the river Slokkert, return to Appelscha via the Fochterloërveen. There are 13 stages between 12 and 25 kilometers. Most stages can also be split in two. The route is easy to follow via the junctions.
