Wieringer Picnic Route (Sport Nu Westerland)

The tour takes you over the rolling landscape, which is so characteristic of the former island "Wieringen".

The name "Wieringen" comes from the old Frisian word "Wir"' which means "height". The oldest part of the former island was created 120,000 years ago because the Norwegian glaciers pushed the boulder clay up to a great height, so that the highest point of Wieringen is 13 m. above N.A.P.
The route takes you over winding roads, along the Wadden Sea, the IJsselmeer and the Amstelmeer, the old country Wieringen and the new country the Wieringermeer.

Furthermore, you will pass the many beautiful picnic places that Wieringen has to offer.
