Auberge De Vos

Many artists-friends of Valerius De Saedeleer found their way to Etikhove. They came for Valerius, but mainly because of the carpet weaving mill "Studio De Saedeleer" or "Société de Tapis d' Art De Saedeleer et C°". They usually stayed at Auberge De Vos. Especially in 1926, a number of artists stayed in Etikhove for a few months: Luc and Paul Haesaerts, Jean Milo, Ramah, ... On the occasion of the pig fair on 12 September 1926, they painted murals in Auberge De Vos. Ramah even painted a new signboard for the inn. This currently adorns the first floor of the administrative center of Maarkedal. In 1972, the murals were "rediscovered", after which the inn was protected in 1978. After the sale of the building in 1986, the murals were removed during renovations by the new – apparently ignorant – owner. A very unfortunate, but irreversible thing!
