Rheinbach District Court

The Rheinbach District Court is the district court responsible for the towns of Meckenheim and Rheinbach as well as the municipality of Swisttal in the left bank of the Rhine in the Rhein-Sieg district. Around 70,000 people live in the 367 km² judicial district.

The first court in Rheinbach can be traced back to the 11th century. Initially under the jurisdiction of Prüm Abbey, it changed several times until Rheinbach belonged to the Electorate of Cologne. During Napoleon's rule, from 1792 until after the Congress of Vienna and the creation of the Rheinbach district in 1816, there was no separate court. The new court in Rheinbach, which was called the Justice of the Peace from 1816 onwards for the mayor's offices in Adendorf, Ollheim, Rheinbach, Kuchenheim and Münstereifel, existed until 1879, when the Rheinbach District Court was created as part of the adoption of the Court Constitution Act. Changes then resulted from various municipal reforms, so in 1932 the district of Rheinbach was divided into the district of Euskirchen and the district of Bonn, according to the regulations of the Bonn Act 1969, Rheinbach now belongs to the Rhein-Sieg district and the district court received its current jurisdiction over Rheinbach, Meckenheim and the municipality of Swisttal.
