Heinrichs Bridge

It connects the city center with the neighborhoods of Debschwitz and Heinrichsgrün located west of the river and simultaneously forms the western exit road of the city, as Federal Highway 2 crosses the Elster here. At its eastern edge, the bridge with the streets Am Sommerbad from the north, Elsterdamm from the south, and Heinrichstraße from the east creates one of the largest road intersections in the city.
The present-day streets Heinrichstraße and Straße des Friedens have always formed the western exit road of Gera. In the Middle Ages, at the site of the present Heinrichsbrücke, there was the first ford, which was replaced by the first bridge in the 16th century. The bridge has been destroyed several times by floods or ice movement.
