The municipality of Gulpen-Wittem was the scene for many special, heroic and tragic war events during the Second World War. The fallen are commemorated at important locations in the area and the various monuments and plaques give an opportunity to reflect on everything that has happened here.

Two walks of 10 and 13 kilometers both start in Wittem. This walk leads you from Wittem through the Wachelerbos, Mechelen, Wahlwiller and Partij. During the walk you will pass 7 memorials.

With each monument, the story about the monument and the event can be heard by means of an audio fragment. The audio stories can be listened to on this page.

Both the seasoned history buff and the curious visitor will be amazed by the history that lurks in the villages and forests of Gulpen-Wittem.

The route is not signposted separately, but there is a special brochure with the route available via the webshop and the tourist points in the area. The route starts in the Wittemer Allee, where you can also park.
