The route begins in Well (parking lot at the sports park and school, but you can also park a bit further away at the Reindersmeer visitor center) and runs clockwise. The Maasduinen area is perfect for gravel biking: the route follows many unpaved (very fine gravel) bike paths in North Limburg. Often, gravel roads run alongside these bike paths (which can also be ridden with 28 mm puncture-proof tires on racing bikes), so you won't have to get in the way of leisure cyclists. This is especially true on this route from the northernmost point when heading south. Another advantage of the gravel roads along the gravel bike paths is particularly notable after periods of rain: the gravel bike paths have a type of gravel surface that is less permeable to water (gravel mixed with clay) than the adjacent gravel roads, allowing these gravel bike paths to stay wet longer.
56% of the route consists of gravel (for all gravel sections and their lengths, see below). You will pass through a diverse landscape: alongside heathland, through forests, along and over the characteristic river dunes (Afferdense Bergen (or Afferdense Dunes), Eckeltse Bergen), alongside the Maas, past lakes (Reindersmeer) and ponds, and you will also travel through a small-scale cultural and agricultural landscape. You will pass Burg Ruine Bleijenbeek and Well Castle. The route briefly reaches Germany (through the Gocher Veen, near Weeze Airport). Some parts of the route may be busier on Sundays and public holidays (specifically with hikers on the bike paths along the Reindersmeer).
