The route has been adjusted with a temporary detour, as the road is closed to all traffic after 1.6 km, including pedestrians, and the work will last until May 2024. After 1.4 km, turn left over the Bataviabrug to continue to km 2.5 and thus follow the original route. Thanks for the information from a hiker.
Additional information: You can park for free at the 'Unnamed parking lot' located on the opposite side of Kleindonkstraat, namely at the corner of Dok Zuid and Metselaarsstraat (entrance to parking). Be aware of the 'Low Emission Zone' that borders Dok Zuid. In 200 meters from the train station and at the end of the walk, you do not cross the street to the station but simply stay left and walk to the parking lot.

Kleindonkstraat is now a bicycle street and no longer accessible for parking, so those arriving by car should park better at Watersportbaan or at the parking lot in Yachtdreef (also more space for motorhomes) and start the walk there. The Westerbegraafplaats (since 1873) with its old burial monuments and the Zeppelin memorial remains impressive to stroll past.

For your information: Winter celebrations in Ghent from 6/12/2019 to including 5/1/2020 also lie along the route. Those coming by train have the winter celebrations 2 km from the end of the route/train station. So, start the walk in the afternoon and participate in the winter celebrations in the evening.

A walk through the center and around the green lung of Ghent, the extensive nature reserve of Bourgoyen-Ossemeersen, the green zone of Blaarmeersen, and other green strips on the outskirts of Ghent.
In the center of Ghent, we pass various churches and cathedrals as well as different sights such as the Westerbegraafplaats with its huge burial monuments in the old part, the renewed Reep, a piece of new Ghent at Kleindokkaai, and Schipperskaai with its Captain Zeppospark...
Those arriving by train can simply start from Dampoort station. By car it is somewhat more difficult, as there is paid parking everywhere, except on Sundays.
On the Blaarmeersen site, you can choose whether to take the normal route with a bit more jogger traffic or the lower path along the waterline, where it is somewhat quieter.
Scroll under the 'Route information' to 'Route media', where you can click on a link (source) at the first photo for a photo report about the walk (with thanks to the hikers).
Between km 8 and 9, you will pass the center of Natuurpunt with a cafeteria.
