New Sydekum

The New Sydekum is a listed building located in the old town of Hann. Münden, in southern Lower Saxony, which is now used as a mosque. It should not be confused with the ancient Sydekum to the northwest of the medieval fortifications of the city of Munich.

The New Sydekum was built as a hotel by the innkeeper Andreas Röhrig in 1783 after the demolition of four residential buildings on the city wall. It took the name of Sydekum from the ancient Sydekum. The three-storey, 11-axis building characterizes the river view due to its location on the Werra. On the bank side, the building has a hexagonal central building that slides out of the façade and supports a roof hood. On the street side, the three middle building axes have a risalit building with a gable.
