Valley of the Chantoirs

From the Sanctuary of Banneux ND, you will follow the valley of the chantoirs, which is located at the northern border of a limestone zone: the "Calestienne". Upon leaving the village of Banneux, you take the “Chemin du forestier” which goes through forests and meadows to Adzeux. Adzeux is a hamlet with picturesque houses made of sand and limestone from the 17th to the 19th century. Upon leaving the village, you will discover two geological phenomena unique to the region: the chantoir of Adzeux and the chantoir of Grandchamps. Due to these geological features resulting from the erosion of carbonate rocks, we can see streams disappearing into the bowels of the earth (to reappear a few kilometers further). From the chantoir of Adzeux (also known as "Chantoir des Faux monnayeurs" or "Grotte du last sottais"), you can hear the stream of Banneway "singing" as it begins its underground crossing. The emergence of the Vallon slowly takes place through an open backdrop landscape that allows you to discover on the right side the "Château des Fawes" with its park, its century-old beech trees, and its gigantic sequoia.
