Moerbeke-Waas

The 'Soete Land van Waes' has many beautiful natural landscapes. Today you visit the Moervaart and the Zuidlede, a unique landscape in the upper reaches of the Durme. You start in Moerbeke at one of the many characteristic bridges that span the Moervaart. A wild stretch along the Zuidlede leads you to the Line, an old defense line from the early 18th century. On the way back, the focus is on the religious: In the Kruiskapel, you must see a wonderful cross. In the surroundings of the Moervaart, one reflects on the animal epic 'Van den Vos Reynaerde', which was probably written in the vanished abbey of Boudelo.
DEPARTURE POINT
You reach the Terwestbrug over the Moervaart in Moerbeke-Waas by leaving the N49-E34 at the exit for Moerbeke. At the roundabout in front of the factory, go straight toward Wachtebeke. After 1 km, a smaller path leads left to 'De Brugge'.
PARKING
At the Taverne-Restaurant De Brugge.
TYPE OF ROAD
First part cobblestones, then earth and gravel paths, last part concrete road.
ACCESSIBILITY
Impossible for buggies and wheelchairs; long pants and sweaters with long sleeves for walking along the Zuidlede (protection against nettles).
