Day trip from Köthen (Anhalt) to Bernburg (Saale)

Short Description

The European Cycle Route R1 connects the two significant cities in the cultural region of Anhalt - Bernburg (Saale) and Köthen (Anhalt).

From Köthen, the former residence of Leopold von Anhalt-Köthen, the former workplace of Johann Sebastian Bach, and the world capital of homeopathy, the R1 leads through the flat Osternienburger Land to Biendorf. The local castle houses a unique museum with over 150 different collections of the Dutch castle lord Erik van de Merwe. Following the river Fuhne southwards, you cycle into the city of Bernburg. Here, the Fuhne flows into the Saale. At the edge of the Saale, the imposing Renaissance castle of the progenitor of the Ascanians, Albrecht the Bear, towers. Visitors can expect impressive buildings in the valley and mountain town as well as a lively city center with diverse cultural and leisure activities - such as the recreational area Krumbholz with the park railway, the zoo, or the fairytale garden Paradies.
