Cottbus és una ciutat alemanya que pertany a l'estat de Brandenburg. Està situada 125 kilòmetres al sud-est de Berlín, a la vora del riu Spree. Limita al nord i nord-est amb els municipis de Drachhausen, Drehnow i Turnow-Preilack, la ciutat de Peitz, Teichland i Heinersbrück.
És, després de la capital estatal, Potsdam, la segona ciutat més gran de Brandenburg. Al costat de Brandenburg an der Havel, Frankfurt de l'Oder i Potsdam, Cottbus és un dels quatre centres administratius de l'Estat federal de Brandenburg i té l'estatus de ciutat lliure .
