Hannover és la capital del Bundesland de la Baixa Saxònia i una de les més importants ciutats del nord d'Alemanya. Té una població de 520.000 habitants i és un dels principals centres organitzatius de fires i congressos.
La ciutat de Hannover va ser fundada l'any 1100 convertint-se en residència d'Enric el Lleó. Aviat es convertí en una ciutat hanseàtica de primer ordre que prosperà gràcies a ser un centre de poder durant la Reforma religiosa i gràcies a ser seu d'una de les principals famílies de la reialesa alemanya.
