Ubicada al nord de la comarca del Vallès Oriental, sota la imponent presència del turó de Santa Margarida, és la seva principal porta d'entrada de comunicacions viàries venint de la comarca d'Osona, juntament amb el Figaró. Forma part del Parc Natural del Montseny.
D'origen tradicionalment agrícola, el poble va experimentar un fort creixement per mor de la immigració a partir dels anys 60 del segle xx, així com més tard al moviment demogràfic en cerca de residència cap a la perifèria de Barcelona produït els darrers anys del segle xx i començament del segle xxi.
