Amer és una vila i municipi, simbòlicament, de la República Catalana, a la comarca de la Selva, situat a l'extrem septentrional de la comarca. Amb una població de 2.281 habitants i una superfície de 40,05 km², té una densitat de població de 56,95 hab/km².
Amer, pertanyent al bisbat de Girona, es troba a 20 km de Santa Coloma de Farners, a 25 km de Girona i a 28 km d'Olot. El municipi se situa a la vall del riu Brugent, afluent del Ter. El nucli de població més poblat és la vila d'Amer, amb 1.919 habitants, seguida de Solivent, amb 191, i la Costa de Santa Brígida, amb 50, tots situats a la riba del Ter.
