La muntanya de Montjuïc de Barcelona es caracteritza per la seva forma de penya-segat que s'enfonsa en la mar Mediterrània per la banda del Morrot. El seu cim està a una altitud de 177,72 metres. Administrativament es troba dins del districte de Sants-Montjuïc.
Pel que fa a l'etimologia del topònim, tradicionalment se li ha atribuït el significat Mont dels Jueus, suposadament provinent del català medieval, motivat per l'existència d'un cementiri jueu a la muntanya. Igualment versemblant és que sigui una corrupció del llatí Mons Iovis , nom aquest mencionat per Pomponi Mela en la seva Corografia: «Inde ad Tarraconem parva sunt oppida Blande, Iluro, Baetulo, Barcino, Subur, Tolobi; parva flumina Baetulo, iuxta Iovis montem Rubricatum in Barcinonis litore, inter Subur et Tolobin Maius "Des d'aquí fins a Tàrraco hi ha les poblacions de Blande, Iluro, Bètulo, Bàrcino, Súbur i Tolobi; els petits rius Bètulo, el Rubricatus, al costat del Mont de Júpiter, a la costa de Bàrcino, i el Maius, entre Súbur i Tolobi"».
