Cardedeu és una vila i municipi de la comarca del Vallès Oriental amb una població de 18.357 habitants .
Pel topònim confús que dona nom a la vila s'han considerat diverses possibilitats, però sembla que la més acceptada és la de Francesc de B. Moll que proposa que l'origen de Cardedeu prové de Car de Deu, que significaria "penyal de font". No es considera admissible fonèticament la proposta de Balari i Jovany, segons la qual el topònim derivaria de quercitulum . Tot i això la confusió toponímica s'ha perpetuat en l'escut municipal, que té representades tres flors de card daurades, donant lloc a equívocs sobre l'origen del nom de la vila.
