El Gargano és un promontori de la costa oriental italiana, conegut amb el sobrenom de «l'esperó d'Itàlia». Té una extensió de 2100 km², dels quals 11 estan ocupats per dos llacs , mentre que la resta forma un massís amb cotes de fins a 1.065 msnm ; però no tota aquesta àrea és espai natural, històricament es parla del Gargano en referència als 17 municipis de la província de Foggia que ocupen aquest territori. El territori no habitat és considerat un parc natural o àrea protegida.
