Juan Pérez Delgado (NIJOTA) levede fra 1898 til 1973).
Værket blev bestilt af Orfeó La Paz de La Laguna til skulptøren Francisco Borges Salas (1901-1994) som en hyldest til journalisten og digteren fra La Laguna.
Det blev indviet den 9. november 1975 og ligger på pladsen La Concepció i San Cristóbal de La Laguna.
Juan Pérez Delgado blev født i kvarteret La Concepció i La Laguna , "under den cubanske krig". Han studerede jura, en aktivitet han ikke professionelt forfulgte, da han helligede sig journalistik, blandt andet som redaktør for avisen La Prensa og chefredaktør for El Día.
Han dyrkede med succes teater, poesi og noveller. Hans første værk, Mariquilla, havde premiere i 1927 og "Kærlighed på cykel" året efter. Hans humoristiske vers blev godt modtaget af pressen og publikum på øerne.
