Nieuwpoort er en by og badeby ved den belgiske kyst. Nieuwpoort selv består faktisk af to dele, Nieuwpoort-Byn og Nieuwpoort-Bad. Derudover tilhører landsbyerne Sint-Joris og Ramskapelle også kommunen. Byen har over 11.600 indbyggere. Isera Portus, det første navn for Nieuwpoort, dukkede op i skrifter i 1150. Senere talte man om Neo Portus og Novum Oppidum. Novus Portus er den betegnelse, det endelig fik. Nieuwpoort er så navngivet i modsætning til den gamle havn, nemlig Lombardsijde, som allerede har eksisteret siden før 1115 på Testerep på den modsatte side af IJser.
