Oprindeligt var der her en cijnshoeve, der tilhørte Herrerne von Bocholt. De opholdt sig her kun nogle dage om året og brugte det blandt andet som jagtpavillon.
Under De Trediveårige Krig blev Damburg ødelagt af tropperne under Peter Ernst I von Mansfeld og blev delvist genopbygget i 1683. Portbygningen i Maaslandsk renæssancestil stammer fra 1715 og blev opført af Joanna Theresia Clara von Bocholt, Dame von Bocholt, og hendes ægtefælle, Grev de Lannoy. Det var en voldsom herregård, der på Ferraris kort blev omtalt som Château d’Ambroug. Der blev også nævnt på dette kort om den første fernplantning i kommunen, som fandt sted nær Damburg. I Atlas for Nabolandene fra 1845 havde Damburg allerede næsten sin nuværende form, nu under navnet: Maison du Village de Bocholt.
