Venstrebredden blev systematisk forhøjet sidst i det 19. århundrede. Området omkring Sint-Anneke var et af de første områder, hvor slam og groft sand blev anført. På den nye undergrund opstod et golt klitlandskab, som uden tvivl har bidraget til opkomsten og succesen af horecaklyngen med sandstrand. Vigtigt for opretholdelsen af det sandede landskab er vindens dynamik ved den fremspringende Schelde-bue. Fra Sint-Anneke er der en smuk udsigt over resterne af Nordslot, på den anden side af Schelde.
