Jef Planckaert var en af de bedste belgiske cyklister i begyndelsen af 1960'erne. 1962 var hans absolute topår. Dengang blev han nummer to i Tour de France, blev han belgisk mester og vandt Liège-Bastogne-Liège og etapeløbet Paris-Nice. Jef døde i 2007, to år senere fik han en statue i sin hjemby Otegem.
