Mechtersen er en niedersaksisk kommune i Samtgemeinde Bardowick i Landkreis Lüneburg. Ifølge Mechtersen-sangen ligger stedet „kun en kvart time“ fra Lüneburg og Vögelsen. Med et areal på 14,42 km² er det den tredjestørste kommune i Samtgemeinde, men har også med cirka 650-700 indbyggere det mindste indbyggertal. Ældre navne er sandsynligvis Mechtrikeshusen, Mechtriksen og Mechtenhusen.
Mechtersens landmænd har tidligt udøvet plæggeskæring i nord for kommunen og i nabokommunen Radbruch. Derudover findes der i syd en mergelgrube, som Mechterserne anvendte op til det 20. århundrede. Mergel blev brugt til at forbedre sur jord.
