Rabenstein/Fläming ligger i den øvre dal af Plane og i dens kildeområde.
I kommunen, som ligger helt i Naturparken Hohes Fläming, findes flere naturbeskyttelsesområder.
De nuværende bydele i kommunen har siden 1817 tilhørt Zauch-Belzig-kredsen i den preussiske provins Brandenburg og fra 1952 til Belzig-kredsen i DDR-distriktet Potsdam. Siden 1993 ligger de i den brandenburgiske Landkreis Potsdam-Mittelmark.
