Vellmar er en lille by i den nordhessiske Landkreis Kassel. Med cirka 19.000 indbyggere er den den næststørste kommune i Landkreis.
Vellmar grænser op til den nordlige grænse af storbyen Kassel, hvor bebyggelsen i begge byer mange steder smelter sammen. Byen bliver cirka i retning vest-nordvest til sydøst gennemstrømmet af den nordvestlige Fulda-biflod Ahne, hvor det urbane rekreationsområde Ahnepark ligger. Byområdet ligger mellem 163,5 m over NHN, ved udløbet af Ahne fra byen, og 361,2 m højde, på toppen af Staufenberg, som hæver sig mod nordvest; rådhuset i byens centrum anses som byens midtpunkt på 193,98 m. I Vellmar munder den lille Rainbach, nær det friluftsbad, og nær krydset mellem Bahnhofstraße/Hollandske Vej munder den lille Elsche, og nær Grundweg munder den lille bæk fra Hopfenberg i Ahne. Nærliggende bjerge inkluderer det vestlige Habichtswald bjergområde og Reinhardswald mod nordøst.
