Rüthen er en by i Kreis Soest i Nordrhein-Westfalen. Byen Rüthen fik byrettigheder i år 1200. I middelalderen havde Rüthen til tider betydelig betydning som administrativt centrum for hertugdømmet Westfalen og som hansestad. Siden senmiddelalderen har den udviklet sig mere og mere til en landby. Den nuværende by opstod ved sammenlægningen af kernebyen med 14 tidligere selvstændige kommuner. Statistisk set betragtes Rüthen i dag som en stor landkommune.
