Dortmund [ˈdɔʁtmʊnt] er en administrativt uafhængig storby i Nordrhein-Westfalen og med 587.696 indbyggere den niende største by i Tyskland samt den tredjestørste by i Nordrhein-Westfalen efter Köln og Düsseldorf. Dortmund er en del af metropolregionen Rhein-Ruhr med cirka elleve millioner indbyggere, den største by i Ruhr-området både hvad angår areal og befolkningstal og betragtes som det administrative, kommercielle og kulturelle centrum for det østlige Ruhr-område. Byen ligger i Westfalen og er en del af regeringsdistriktet Arnsberg.
