Hanau, byen til Brødrene Grimm, er en del af Hessen. Det er et vigtigt center og sted for høj teknologi virksomheder. Hanau er den sjette største by i Hessen. Byen ligger øst for Frankfurt am Main. Andre byer der grænser op til Hanau er Offenbach am Main og Aschaffenburg. Floden Main løber gennem byen. Hanau har gode infrastrukturer. Der er en havn ved floden, vej- og gadenettet er meget godt. Hanau har en central station med forbindelse til hurtige intercity tog til hele Tyskland. Det tager ca. 25 minutter med S-tog til Frankfurt. Der er direkte forbindelser med en linje til Frankfurt lufthavn. Motorvej 3 fra Köln til Nuremberg passerer gennem Hanau.
