Navnet »Up den Braem« henviser til den for det vestlige Münsterland typiske sandjord, hvor gyvel (på plattysk „Braem“) vokser; øst for Gescher fra Klye findes der lerjorden »Up den Dreyn«.
Bygningerne stammer fra området omkring Gescher. De blev demonteret af lokalhistorisk forening på stedet og genopført på den 3,5 ha store haveterræn ved det gamle rådhus.
