Montbéliard er en by i Doubs-afdelingen i Bourgogne-Franche-Comté-regionen i det østlige Frankrig, omtrent 13 km fra grænsen til Schweiz. Det er en af de to underpræfekturer i afdelingen.
Montbéliard nævnes allerede i 983 som Mons Beliardae. Grevskabet Montbéliard eller Mömpelgard var et feudal grevskab i det Hellige Romerske Rige fra 1033 til 1796. I 1283 fik det tildelt rettigheder under charter af greve Reginald. Dets charter garanterede grevskabet evige friheder og franchise, som varede indtil den Franske Revolution i 1789.
