Det blev bygget af staten fra 1878 på grund, som de selv havde købt af kommunen og privatpersoner. Det blev færdiggjort i 1890. Det indeholder knoglerne fra cirka 3.000 franske og tyske soldater. Ifølge en aftale den 1. marts 1951 mellem Ministeriet for Veterananliggender (Gravbureauet) og Komiteen påtager sidstnævnte sig de (dyre) omkostninger til vedligeholdelse. Terrassen måtte helt genlægges i 1999 og kan besøges ved at anmode om tilladelse fra husets forvalter.
