Havnen i Trieste er omfavnet af byen Trieste på tre sider. Mange vigtige pladser og bygninger ligger derfor ved havnen, såsom Piazza dell'Unità d'Italia og den græsk-ortodokse kirke, søfartsmuseet, akvariet osv. I havnen ligger små fiskerbåde, yachter og fragtskibe, samt meget store krydstogtskibe.
