Løkken Loppersum ligger i enden af Lopster Wijmers og begyndelsen af Westeremdermaar, lige ved siden af N996. Pumpestationen og den tilknyttede sluse blev bygget i 1991 for at kompensere for den relative vandstigning som følge af sænkningen af jorden på grund af udvindingen af naturgas.
Pumpestationen dræner det område, der groft set ligger mellem Eemshavenvej, Dellevej, jernbanelinjen og alléen fra Garsthuizen til Loppersum.
