Vatikanstaten, officielt Staten Vatikanstaten, er den mindste uafhængige stat i verden. Området i dette land er helt omkranset af byen Rom, hvilket gør det til en enklave inden i Italien.
Vatikanstaten repræsenteres i folkerettens navn af den Hellige Stol og huser hovedsædet for den Romersk-Katolske Kirke. Statschefen for Vatikanstaten er paven, som har sin officielle bolig i det Apostoliske Palæ. I perioden med sede vacante, den pavefrie periode efter den siddende paves død, varetages de løbende anliggender af Camerlengo.
