Völkermarkt ist eine Stadtgemeinde mit 10.904 Einwohnern im gleichnamigen Bezirk des österreichischen Bundeslandes Kärnten.Die Stadt liegt im Süd-Osten Österreichs im nördlichen Jauntal in einer Seehöhe von 462 m, direkt nördlich des Flusses Drau auf einer markanten Schotterterrasse, die nach drei Seiten steil abfällt. Auf der Südseite liegt das Flussbett der Drau, die durch das Flusskraftwerk Edling seit 1962 zu einem langen See aufgestaut wurde und dadurch die Siedlungen Per Mostu, Mauthhaus und Fuchs überflutete, die sich einst am Ufer der Drau befanden.
