Mortantsch liegt an der Stadtgrenze zu Weiz im Bezirk Weiz in der Oststeiermark. Die Grenze im Westen und im Süden bildet die Raab. Der tiefste Punkt im Süden liegt 430 Meter über dem Meer. Vom Fluss steigt das Land steil etwa hundert Meter bewaldet an. Daran schließt ein hügeliges Gebiet an, dessen flache Teile landwirtschaftlich genutzt werden. Die höchsten Erhebungen sind der Steinberg im Süden mit 632 Meter und der Stroß mit 1039 Meter im Norden. Die Fläche beträgt knapp achtzehn Quadratkilometer. Davon sind 48 Prozent bewaldet und 42 Prozent werden landwirtschaftlich genutzt.
