Die Traisen, die aus den Quellflüssen Türnitzer Traisen und Unrechttraisen gebildet wird, ist ein rechter Nebenfluss der Donau im Süden Niederösterreichs. Die Gölsen ist der einzig größere Nebenfluss.
Der Name des Flusses Traisen geht auf das keltische Wort *tragisamā zurück, was so viel bedeutet wie „die sehr schnelle“. Der Name ist auf einem römerzeitlichen Stein, der in St. Pölten gefunden wurde, überliefert.
